Bad Girls of Columbus

BAD GIRLS of Columbus!

I am very excited and honored to officially call myself a BAD GIRL of Columbus! I pitched the concept of Mindful Management last week to the BGV Selection Committee and was chosen as part of the inaugural class of BGV Columbus. Mindful Management will complete BGV’s 9-week business development course, competing against local women entrepreneurs for access to start-up capital. We will be learning from local business leaders and receive coaching from industry experts to further develop our business strategies. Upon completion of the 9-week course, each finalist will present herself to the BGV Investment Committee—and one finalist will win a $25k low-interest loan. I am thrilled to participate in the competition and look forward to connecting with my fellow class of BAD GIRLS.

Check out BGV’s founder, Candace Klein, talking about what it really means to be a professional, kick-ass Bad Girl:

Mindful Management goes to Duke University:

In addition to competing in BGV Columbus, I’ll also be attending Duke University’s Integrative Health Coaching Professional Training over the next 3 months. Participants meet at Duke for 3 separate modules, each consisting of 25-30 hours of in-person, classroom, and experiential learning at the state-of-the-art Integrative Medicine facility.

The program seeks to support the transformation of healthcare and equip participants with the knowledge and tools to help people clarify health goals and implement & sustain behavior/lifestyle changes. Our vision for Mindful Management is to include Integrative Health Coaching tools and services in the future to create a more holistic solution to rising healthcare costs. Health management is more than just reacting to disease, it is a proactive strategy to mitigate risk-factors by making choices to optimize one’s health and well-being.

Below is the Wheel of Health, a tool to assist in the development of a personalized and optimal health plan:

I look forward to learning from the leaders of integrative health coaching and sharing my experience with others.

Company Launch: Mindful Management, LLC.

Welcome to Mindful Ventures! This blog documents my newest and most exciting journey to date: the building of Mindful Management, an innovative start-up focused on bringing stress-reduction trainings and technologies to the workplace.

We all have stress, but rarely do we take the time to think about the impact it is having on our health, let alone our employer’s pocketbook. The US spends more than 2 trillion dollars per year on healthcare costs, and this cost is expected to grow by more than 8% each year for the foreseeable future! US employers spend a whopping $7,500 on healthcare per employee each year, and twice as much on employees that have stress-related illnesses. That’s a lot of money—and money that we believe could be saved with a more integrative and holistic solution to stress-management in the workplace.

Let me introduce you to Mindful Management’s head researcher, inventor, and most importantly—INSPIRATION! Dr. Maryanna Klatt has spent the past 8 years researching mindfulness-based-stress-reduction and the impact that simple lifestyle changes have on workplace functionally, engagement, & stress levels. Dr. Klatt has researched a unique mindfulness-based-stress-reduction program, Mindfulness in Motion, across various high-stress populations including: OSU Faculty and Staff, employees in financial services, elderly adults, and registered nurses in two OSUMC Intensive Care Units. The program combines what we believe are the three most critical aspects of holistic stress-management—movement (yoga), mindfulness, and music. Below is a photo of Dr. Klatt speaking at TedX Columbus (Fall 2011) about her research and Mindfulness in Motion training:
Participants in the Mindfulness in Motion training reported a significant reduction in stress scores, significant increase of Quality of Sleep & Work Satisfaction, as well as a significant decrease of salivary amylase (a biomarker of stress).

Mindful Management is partnering with The Ohio State University to bring this cutting-edge, research-based program to market. The company has closed multiple sales, and is in the process of developing additional mindfulness tools & technologies to help employees reimagine the way they live and work. We are working to get our name out in the community and start building a network of progressive thought-leaders invested in the health and well-being of the American workforce.

In addition, we are applying to be considered as finalists in the BAD GIRL VENTURES program—an “educational and micro-finance organization dedicated to inspiring and supporting women entrepreneurs in all the key elements of their business” (badgirlventures.com).
